Saturday, June 21: Lifting head and turning it side to side while on tummy Monday, June 23: reacts to familiar voices, finding the source and holding a stare Thursday, July 3: Umbilical cord stump falls off of belly button. Sunday, July 13: First roadtrip/outing (other than doctor's visit) for Parker Fletcher's 2nd birthday bash. Saturday, July 19: Regular, induced, reactionary smiles! Sunday, August 3: First visit to church - Calvary Baptist, Grand Prairie. Friday, August 8: Though there have been days of head-bobbing leading up to this, he first noticeably holds his head up without assistance, almost exclusively, when held upright. Wednesday, August 13: On the day he officially turns a full 7 weeks old, I put him on his belly in his crib (while he was throwing a mini-tantrum after a feeding) and watch him immediately push himself up and roll to his left onto his back. Monday, August 25: Sleeps overnight in his own crib instead of the bassinet. Tuesday, August 26: While on a play mat with dangling toys, noticeably reaches to touch them, occasionally doing the same with his own hands. Monday, September 22: First "play date", with Sara Gladspell and Noah Williams. Wednesday, September 24: Shows first signs of being ticklish - giggling when given raspberries on his bare tummy while having diaper changed. Wednesday, October 1: He begins to purposely shake a rattle and presumably realize that he is creating the rattle sound. Friday, October 10: First solid food, as we got a few spoonfuls of rice cereal just before bed. Sunday, November 30: Kathy goes to pick him up, reaching out her arms, and as she gets close Kole reaches out his arms - showing some sign of wanting/expecting affection. Monday, December 8: Beginning to sit up on his own with less assistance - yet still not completely upright for more than 5 or so seconds. But just about there. Saturday, December 27: Sitting up, with no assistance, for short little 5-10 second intervals. Wednesday, January 7: Still short of full-blown forward crawling, Kole from his belly can spin like a top and do a 180-degree turn in 3 seconds. Thursday, January 8: ending the mystery of what we thought might be him catching a cold, Kathy rubs Kole's lower gum for the third straight day - but this time feels a bump. He's cut his first tooth! Friday, January 30: upon leaving for work I wave goodbye, as I've done every day for several weeks. This time he responds by returning a wave right back! Thursday, February 12: Feeds himself by holding his bottle entirely by himself. Saturday, February 14: With lots of vague scooting and scampering preceding it, we are going to proclaim this day - Valentine's Day - the official day of crawling. On three occasions, he went forward at least 6 feet in the "drop-and-drag" crawl method. Wednesday, March 11: in his crib, watching with our spy-cam baby monitor, Kole refuses to go down for a nap and twice grabs the top of the railing and pulls himself up to a standing position.
Wednesday, April 1: first act of purposely mocking a physical action - clapping in response to one of us clapping. Friday, April 3:First visit to the park - the Park Hill Park down the street. He swung in a swing and slid down a slide with Mom. Tuesday, April 7: We first start to notice long periods of him sleeping on his side. He's been a tummy sleeper since birth. Thursday, June 18: I would be remiss not to include his actual birthday in the Milestones. He celebrated two different birthday parties over the last two weeks, so today was a bit of an ordinary day. We did sing Happy Birthday to him this morning, which made him smile. Monday, June 29: We start to catch on to his new trick of wanting to give us something. He will bring me a cap and wait till I put it on my head. There's something very cool about the cognitive reasoning in his own head, voluntarily being a little helper for the first time - giving with an honest and sincere intent, instead of taking. Friday, July 17: Begins dancing to music and songs in various toys - especially a magnetic alphabet toy that goes on the refrigerator, given to him by the Grunewalds. Kathy and I married on August 6, 2005. We moved to our new home in Grand Prairie on Labor Day weekend of 2006, near the mosquito-infested shores of Joe Pool Lake. After one more year of carelessness, we decided to try our hand at the age-old tradition of procreating. This blog tells our tales.
